Veteran Titans winger Anthony Don has applauded the “back-to-basics” approach from new Head Coach Justin Holbrook, with improving the key fundamentals of the game the sole focus during the Club’s first month of pre-season training.

Don is entering his eighth year of top-flight rugby league and after having his fair share of different coaches during his time, he’s appreciating the way Holbrook is going about things.

“I’m really looking forward to it, especially with the new coach coming in,” Don said.

“Pre-season has been awesome, with a huge focus on the skills area of the game.

“It’s definitely a skills-based approach. He (Holbrook) has gone right back to basics with a lot of the stuff we are doing.

“He’s coaching us on all the basics like catching and passing. We’re even going back and doing a lot of tackle technique stuff.

“It’s been enjoyable so far.”

Don finished 2019 as part of the successful Burleigh Bears side in the Intrust Super Cup, and while he will forever remember the success they had, his ultimate goal is to get his spot back in the NRL side.

“That’s obviously the goal, but I’m not thinking about that too much at the moment,” he said.

“My focus is on training hard and learning what the coach is after from us outside backs.

“I’m working hard at the moment and what will happen, will happen, in the new year.”
