iSelect Titans second-rower Dave Taylor was today rewarded for his consistent form of 2014 by being called into the 21-man Queensland squad after Corey Parker had to withdraw with injury.
Taylor was notified of his call-up after the Titans' field session at Cbus Super Stadium this morning and immediately left for the Maroons.
Teammate and veteran of 15 Origin games for Queensland, Ashley Harrison, was ecstatic for big Dave, reflecting the mood throughout the Titans camp.
“I’m over the moon for him, we all how much work he does off the field it’s been well publicised he has had issues with his weight and he’s taken that on board and worked really hard and this is the fruits of his hard work,” he said.
“This year it’s the most consistent he has been for us and probably in his whole career, he has been one of our best in the last month when we haven’t been winning games and it’s good to see him getting recognition for that form.
“I have no doubt he’s ready to perform well at Origin level if he gets the chance.”
Coach John Cartwright was obviously delighted with Taylor's recognition, having revealed only the day before that he was extremely happy with not just his form but his attitude and consistency.
"He’s been playing really well for us, it’s a week by week thing for Dave, give him his job to do and he’s done it well for us," said Cartwright.
"I’m really happy with him, defensively his reads have been good which is an area he has come unstuck with in recent years; his work rate is very high, he’s playing 80 minutes for us and making huge metres, lots of tackle breaks and much of the good things we’ve done have been around him."
