The Titans have signed experienced NRL forward Eddy Pettybourne for next season. The 26-year-old recently returned from Wigan in England where he was granted a release on personal grounds.
Head coach Neil Henry said the club was extremely fortunate to secure a forward of Pettybourne’s talent and experience to cover for Paul Carter who was dismissed by the club last month.
“He’s a hard-running back or front rower who’s had a lot of experience at the top level and I know Wigan were very happy with his form last season,” Henry said. “He was prominent in their run to the grand final and had proved himself at NRL level.
“He has returned to Australia because of family seasons and we were quick to act after learning that. He’s be a valuable addition and we are very lucky to have a player of his stature to replace Paul.”
Pettybourne, a Souths junior, played 91 NRL games for the Rabbitohs after debuting at 19 in 2007 before spending the 2013 season with Wests Tigers (12 games). He was selected in the New Zealand squad for the 2009 Tri Nations series.
