COACH BEN WOOLF’S TAKE: “Shaun is a skilful outside back who can play a number of positions, has a good passing and running game and is a good leader who has been one of our best and most consistent players this season. He competes on every player and is a great example to his teammates.”
Q: Where did you grow up and who were the big influences in your junior career?
A: Born in Toowoomba and moved to Townsville and then moved to Gold Coast, played at the Burleigh Bears and went into the Titans system when I was 14. My parents are the only people who have taken me to training and have looked after me.
Q: You had some time training with the NRL squad in the off-season, how was that?
A: Was massive, was a great experience and is completely different from the under-20s and was great to be around the team. The senior guys are really welcoming.
Q: How have you embraced the co-captaincy?
A: A bit of a shock when I first got told and it is great to be captain of such a quality side. Parahi Wilson is the other captain and is a great bloke and is great to share the captaincy with him.
Q: What is your preferred position?
A: I don’t really half one, have played fullback and centre. I like them equally, at fullback you have more hands on the ball, but in saying centre is not too far away.
Q: What has been the toughest parts of this season, you’ve competed hard but after a promising start have lost too many games you were in.
A: Losing so many with such a small margin has been really tough and the boys have gotten really frustrated and we got into a bit of a hole. But the boys have come together and become closer as a team and have started to string a few more wins together which has been good.
Q: Do you have any particular interests or hobbies away from footy?
A: I don’t mind playing golf, getting down to the beach and catching up with mates and going to cafes.
