Coach Neil Henry has today spoken about the selected Auckland Nines squad and what we can expect during the tournament this weekend.
Henry selected 19 men to make the trip across the ditch and with the mixture of ages amongst the group, we can expect anything.
“It’s a mixture of experience and youth,” Henry said. “There is also a couple of guys on trial as well and throw in a couple of the 20s that have been doing some full-time training as well.”
Whilst Ryan James has been named in the squad, he is likely to be the ‘reserve’ player for the tournament.
“There is some flexibility there so we’ll see how we’re travelling buy I don’t want to put anyone at any risk of injury.”
Whilst the squad has some big names including Jarryd Hayne, Kane Elgey, Tyrone Roberts, Chris McQueen and Anthony Don, the talk shifted to who wasn’t available.
“Ash (Taylor) has been on some restricted training and Peats has some big weeks ahead so we thought it was better that they didn’t play.
“A lot of the boys are ready to play footy which is exciting.”
