Fan favourite and Tongan star Konrad Hurrell dropped in briefly to the TFH High Performance Centre yesterday much to the delight of his team-mates.
Hurrell has spent the last six weeks as part of the Tongan World Cup squad and has returned with memories that he will cherish forever.
“It was unreal,” Hurrell said. “It was the best campaign I’ve ever been a part of and whilst we came up short in the semi-final, there are moments I will remember for the rest of my life.”
The 26-year-old has played in some big matches throughout his career so far but none will compare to that Saturday afternoon in Auckland against England.
“There were more Tongan people at the ground than there are in Tonga itself,” he laughed. “There was huge support wherever we went but in Auckland was unbelievable.”
The centre will now take a break from training before returning in the New Year to join the squad as season 2018 fast approaches.
“I need to get myself right and whilst I’ll cherish the World Cup but I need to switch my focus now.
“I just thought I’d drop in to catch up with the coaching staff, get a program for over the break to make sure that I come back ready to go next year.”
