The TFH Gold Coast Titans are looking forward to farewelling a true champion of the game in the final round of the 2018 season.
North Queensland Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston announced earlier this year that 2018 would be his final season and Titans fans, along with rugby league fans based in south-east Queensland will be able to thank him for his service to the game on Saturday, 1 September at Cbus Super Stadium.
On-going reports have suggested that the match could be moved to either 1300 Smiles Stadium in Townsville, or Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane but the club can confirm the match will remain on the Gold Coast.
Coach Garth Brennan believes Thurston deserves a great send-off but also hopes his side can get the two points.
"It's our home game," Brennan said. "There's no bigger fan of Johnathan Thurston than me.
"He's done everything possible in the game. He's had a fantastic career.
"I know he'll get a send-off in Townsville the week before but south-east Queensland want to send off Johnathan Thurston as well.
"He's an icon and I think the crowd will turn up and pay their respect.
"It's an honour for me to Coach against him. I think the people of Queensland will get behind him, a lot of people a-can come along and see him.
"Hopefully we don't send him out a winner but send him out with the respect and admiration that he deserves."
