New recruit Ryley Jacks has arrived on the Gold Coast and has hit the ground running, quickly realising the competition for spots is real.
Jacks joins the club from the Melbourne Storm, where he played 25 matches over the past two years, learning from some of the best players the game has seen and finding himself coming in and out of first grade.
The Brisbane-born half could have stayed at the Storm comfortably but believed it was time to test himself and establish himself as a regular NRL player.
"That's my goal, to be a regular first grader," Jacks said.
"There is plenty of competition here in the halves. There is that competition which is good, Tyrone and Ash are here and we've been pushing each other.
"At 26, I'm ready to test myself. That's the main reason I chose to come here.
"I spoke to Garth and he said there was an opportunity for me up here in the halves. It's great to be close to family as well."
