Gold Coast Titans prop Ryan James began his first day on the job at Hoppy's Car Wash today as part of the four-day work experience initiative created by Head Coach Garth Brennan.
Brennan has placed every one of his squad members into the workforce with the 31 men working across a range of different fields, including, carpentry, car washing, bricklaying, sheet metal fabrication and much more.
"It's just great to get out there and do something besides footy," said James.
All squad members have been given the opportunity to experience what life is like outside of footy, with labour-intensive jobs to help build character amongst the squad.
"To tell you the truth, I've never worked a day in my life and doing something like this makes you really appreciate what you have," James added.
"During footy you only train for one or two hours in the morning, have a break, have lunch with your mates, do whatever you want on your phone, go back get treatment."
"Here you have to slog it out all day and continue on with it, so for someone like me who's never really worked a day in his life, it really does make you appreciate what you've got and if you can do this here, on the field is not too hard.
"Some boys out there are doing some hard things. Peats is a brick-layer, Wallace is on landscaping duties.
"I think Wallace might have even booked his own house in to get done which is a bit of a cheat but he's getting it done."
