Too much panic in Titans attack

The Gold Coast Titans admit panic set in during their 26-10 loss to the Warriors on Friday night, as frustration about the hole they find themselves in builds.

Despite getting first-choice halves Ash Taylor and Tyrone Roberts back from injury, the Titans hardly fired a shot in attack against the Warriors, instead relying on two pieces of individual brilliance from wingers Anthony Don and Dale Copley to get them on the scoreboard.

The Titans are still to register a win after four rounds and Taylor admits the reality of their current situation got the better of them in Auckland.

"I think it was all panic out there because we were trying to score points," Taylor said.

"The whole club is under pressure and we need to put better performances on the field to take pressure off ourselves.

"I think we were just trying to push the pass. We weren't putting pressure on the Warriors and we kept trying to offload it when we should have been getting to ground and getting a quick play-the-ball."

The Titans enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half and had no trouble getting into scoring positions, only for a glut of errors to stall their momentum.

They completed just 69 per cent of their uses of the ball with 14 total errors made, including two dropped bombs deep inside their own defensive end.

Coach Garth Brennan said it went completely against his plan to engage the Warriors, who had come off two heavy defeats themselves, in an 80-minute arm wrestle.

"We didn't complete anywhere near where we needed to complete at… we knew we needed to complete, we knew we needed to play field position and we didn't tick those boxes and we paid the penalty," Brennan said.

"We went away from it when it didn't work, we weren't mentally tough enough to stay in the fight and stick to it

"Just frustration. Things weren't coming off and they weren't mentally tough enough to stay in the grind and keep at it, they were trying to fluff their way out of a hole they got themselves in and they just got worse.

"Instead of getting in the grind and completing sets and being patient, we are a side that is probably panicking a bit at the moment."

The Gold Coast have scored just 36 points in four matches and head back to Cbus Super Stadium in round five to face the Panthers.

Brennan is adamant there is only one answer to their woes.   

"They say the harder you work the luckier you get, well they are going to be very lucky if work has got anything to do with it, because we are going to work very hard to turn this around," Brennan said.

"We have made it hard for ourselves, no doubt about that, where we sit on the table without a win, but we are not giving up."
