Titans young gun AJ Brimson said the chance to get up close and learn from some modern Maroons masters was the major takeaway from his cameo in Queensland’s State of Origin camp over the weekend.

Hopefully one day I can put on that Maroon jersey. It is obviously a dream of mine

AJ Brimson

Brimson was invited to Brisbane by Queensland coach Kevin Walters to train with the Maroons, giving the talented Titan a taste of what life is like inside the inner-sanctum and reaffirming that the Gold Coast fullback is firmly on the selectors’ radar.

“It was awesome,” Brimson told titans.com.au.

“I got the call from Kevvie on Monday to come for a few days up there and get a bit of experience under my belt.

“Obviously the likes (Daly) Cherry-Evans and Cameron Munster – all those sort of players – just to be around them and training with them trying to learn whatever I can really.

“It was a really good few days in camp.

“Billy Slater was there, Johnathan Thurston was there.  Whenever I could I was just trying to ask them questions and little things like that. All of the boys were really open to helping me. It was only a few days, but I definitely took a lot out of it.”

Brimson said the experience of being around a representative squad and the extra confidence gained by being acknowledged by Walters would drive him on to continue his rise with the Titans.

“Hopefully one day I can put on that Maroon jersey. It is obviously a dream of mine,” he said. “Just to be in camp around the boys was an awesome experience.”
