Lewis follows in her father's footsteps by becoming a Titan

The Titans have been fortunate over the years to be represented on the field by several sons of Gold Coast guns.

This Saturday at Cbus Super Stadium, for the first time, the daughter of a gun will run out in Titans colours in the inaugural Gold Coast Titans Women’s Invitational match.

More than “the daughter of a gun” Jamie-Lee Lewis is the daughter of rugby league royalty – her father being “King” Wally Lewis.

Lewis, rugby league Immortal, Test and State of Origin legend, is also a former captain and coach of the Gold Coast Seagulls, and will no doubt watch on with pride when his daughter pulls on the Gold Coast jersey for the first time on Saturday.

A talented all-round athlete who has played top-level water polo in the past, Lewis has been selected in a strong Titans Blue team taking on the Titans Pink squad at Cbus Super Stadium.

Almost 30 years after he father last pulled on the boots for Gold Coast, Lewis will complete one of the more stunning journeys in rugby league on Saturday by becoming a Gold Coast Titan.

As part of the Titans’ commitment to the development of women’s rugby league in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region, the first Titans Women’s Invitational will pit two Titans teams against each other in the main curtain-raiser to the Titans’ final NRL game of the season against St George Illawarra.

More than 200 women rugby league players from around Queensland applied to be a part of the Titans Women’s Invitational, with a final list of 60 chosen to attend a day of training and testing at the Titans Women’s Combine at Parkwood.

From there, the list of hopefuls was trimmed back again to a total of 36 players – two squads of 18 – who will make up the Titans Blue and Titans Pink teams this weekend.

After three weeks of training, the two teams are now ready to make history – as the first women’s teams to compete under Titans colours in rugby league competition.
