As part of the Titans’ commitment to the development of women’s rugby league in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region, the first Titans Women’s Invitational will pit two Titans teams against each other in the main curtain-raiser to the Titans’ final NRL game of the season against St George Illawarra.

More than 200 women rugby league players from around Queensland applied to be a part of the Titans Women’s Invitational, with a final list of 60 chosen to attend a day of training and testing at the Titans Women’s Combine at Parkwood.

From there, the list of hopefuls was trimmed back again to a total of 36 players – two squads of 18 – who will make up the Titans Blue and Titans Pink teams this weekend.

After three weeks of training, the two teams are now ready to make history – as the first women’s teams to compete under Titans colours in rugby league competition.

The line-ups for the two squads have now been confirmed, with a host of players that participated in this year’s Queensland Rugby League South East Queensland Region Development camp joining the like of PNG Orchids international star Shae-Yvonne De La Cruz, and Queensland Under-18s fullback Chante Temara.

A State of Origin rivalry from the 1990s will also get new life with a new generation, as Jamie-Lee Lewis (Titans Blue) and Tarnisha Lyons (Titans Pink) will square-off at Cbus Super Stadium.

Burleigh Bears winger Lyons and Lewis, from Souths Logan Magpies in Brisbane, both have famous footballing fathers – former Souths, Penrith and Balmain winger Graham Lyons, and former Queensland and Australian Test captain Wally Lewis.

Lyons played three games for NSW in the Blues’ victorious 1990 series, while Lewis played 31 games for the Maroons between 1980 and 1991 – including two games against Lyons in that 1990 series.

Kick-off in the inaugural Titans Women’s Invitational Match is 5.45pm on Saturday 7 September at Cbus Super Stadium.
