Rugby league is back this weekend, with almost every contracted Junior Titans System player taking part in a “Super Saturday” of trial matches  tomorrow at Runaway Bay.

The festival of footy gets underway at 11:30am, with the first of six games of rugby league culminating with the final match of the day between the Titans Rookies against the Tweed Seagulls Intrust Super Cup side.

Titans Elite Player Development Manager Jamie McCormack is excited about the opportunity  every player has to impress ahead of their respective season.

“It’s our annual ‘Super Saturday’ where we incorporate as many of the Titans junior level players into our trials,” he said.

“There are a few different levels out there this weekend. Obviously the Academy players are new to our system, and have had a big three months. They’ll go back to their club but will also do a few more sessions under the guidance of (Academy Coordinator) Matt Srama.

“Our Northern Rivers boys are just about to start their CRL competition, so this is their last opportunity to get things right before they play Parramatta next week.

“The Tweed sides are preparing for the Mal Meninga Cup season ahead. In our 20s, a number of players have been part of the full-time training squad and this will be an opportunity for them to play against men this weekend which will be interesting to see.

“There will be a lot of people there watching. Head Coach Justin Holbrook and both Intrust Super Cup coaches (Burleigh’s Rick Stone and Tweed’s Ben Woolf) will be there as well, so the players have an opportunity (to impress) with them there.

“Rugby league is here, so from this weekend it’s full-steam ahead. It’s a chance for people to come out and see some of the local talent.”
