Jamal Fogarty has won the 2020 Coach’s award, with the half-back acknowledged by the Titans coaching staff for a breakout season.

After joining the squad during the COVID break, Fogarty played 18 times this season, making the number seven jersey his own.

In announcing the award, Coach Justin Holbrook touched on the fact that Fogarty’s achievements came despite not spending the pre-season with the team.

“There were so many good contributors but for someone to come in late in the year and do what he’s done for the whole group is an outstanding achievement,” Holbrook said.

“He thoroughly deserves it.”

Having played just two NRL games prior to this season (for the Titans in 2017), Fogarty says it’s “awesome” to be recognised by the coaching group that includes Holbrook and Assistant Coaches Jim Dymock and Jim Lenihan.

“It’s obviously a privilege and an honour to get the compliments from the coaches,” Fogarty said.

“The coaching staff have been very patient and have had to bide their time with me coming in a little bit later but I think they’ve done a great job with someone like myself to give me confidence week-to-week.

“We started off a bit slow and shaky but by the back half of the season we were pretty confident and got some good performances in.

“This year has been a whole lot of fun, so hopefully we can look after ourselves in the off-season and give next year a good shake.”
