Now that Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook knows how to use Tyrone Peachey in his football team the Titans boss has to find a way to keep him at the club beyond 2021.
Peachey has been one of the success stories of the Titans 2021 season, having forced Holbrook to move Queensland Origin lock Tino Fa’asuamaleaui into the front row so the former NSW Origin utility can offer his strike power from minute one.
The creative play of Peachey was never more evident than in the Gold Coast’s 42-16 win over Newcastle as the club’s new No.13 set up the first try inside 90 seconds with his speed exposing some flat-footed edge defence.
Off contract at the end of the season, Peachey is among a handful of Titans who are waiting for contract offers but need to be patient as the club has deals on the table for high-profile recruits that could impact the salary cap.

“Yeah, there is a number of recruitment ones we’ve got to look at and Tyrone is obviously one of them. I am a big fan of the way he plays that’s for sure so we will see how we go over that,” Holbrook said.
Finally settled on the Gold Coast after a turbulent start to his Titans career, Peachey is keen to stay but is well aware that his versatility is a rare commodity in the NRL and he showed that again on Saturday as he shifted between lock, centre and wing in a tireless performance.

“I’m pretty versatile and feel I am one of the best utilities in the comp but I think moving forward I know if there is ever an injury I am the person who can slot in there and do whatever is best for the team,” Peachey told NRL.com
“I love it [playing lock] at the moment, playing off the back of all the big boys. My job is pretty easy just to try and move them around and pop up when I need to.
“I wasn’t happy with last week’s performance [against Canberra], we lost and I didn’t play that well. I just wanted to get involved early and I got pretty lucky setting Kevie [Proctor] up so my confidence was pretty high after that and I just wanted to get into the game early and just attack it.”
Holbrook was delighted with Peachey’s performance and said his attacking threat was precisely why he opted to promote him to the starting side and shift Fa’asuamaleaui into the No.10 jersey.
“He is just such a good threat for us Peach the way he plays,” Holbrook said.

“Originally with Peach in round one I wanted to bring him on after about 25 minutes and leave him out there but the game was that hot and that quick that I couldn’t leave him out there and I want him in the back end of games.
“If I start him then if he has to come off he can have a rest then come back on later in the game. It was more around when he is on the field.
“Everyone says bring him on after 25 when everyone is tired but you’re also bringing on other reserves on the field as well.
“I just wanted us to start better and I think Peach is offering that much of a threat with the ball that he showed again today with the first try that if you worry about other players he will just run through himself.”
