Feeney: We need to play our style of footy

Hold the ball.

That's the simple message from Titans NRLW Head Coach Jamie Feeney ahead of his sides Round 2 clash against the Sydney Roosters on Sunday afternoon.

After completing at 62% in Round 1, the Titans leader believes if they can fix that simple area then their style of football can do enough to record the club's first ever victory in the NRLW.

Speaking of his side's first match, Feeney said his side knew what they needed to fix.

"Without me telling them what was wrong, they already knew," Feeney said.

"We coughed up way too much ball and we were still in the hunt, so they have responded really well and they understand that first and foremost and hopefully we wont give the Roosters that much opportunity.

"It is just getting the attitude right.

"We definitely don't train to drop that much ball but it is more of an attitude thing with that dropped a ball."

While Feeney acknowledges a couple of key threats within the Roosters he says the real focus on his own side and what they can control.

"As we saw on the weekend they battled a bit with the Broncos but their threats are in the outside backs - Kelly and Sergis are two of the best outside backs in the game, so we will be wary of them," Feeney said.

"Then making sure we are controlling our side of the football so we are asking more questions of their defence.

"We just need to hold the footy and hopefully our style of footy will take care of the Roosters.

Feeney has made two changes to his starting side with experienced campaigner Steph Hancock coming into the starting side, but Feeney says the change is more about trying combinations than rewarding form.

"To be honest Round 1 was to get the combination of Shannon (Mato) with Bri (Clark) starting and now we are going to try Steph and there is nothing untoward about it, but just trying to get the best combinations for the side," Feeney said.

The Titans mentor was formerly in charge of the Roosters but doesn't hold any additional significance with the game.

"I was there for a year and a lot of the players have changed and 'Strangey' (John Strange) was my assistant and now he is the Head Coach, so that will be good and he is a really good coach," he said.

"It is just another team for us to try and beat and I really enjoyed my time there ... but no hard feelings and just another game where hopefully we come away with the two points.

And what was Feeney's final message for his side? One he has no doubt repeated all week.

"It is up to the girls to respond, hold the ball and try to play our style of footy and get the job done."
