$16,000 raised as JC chops ratty for flood relief

It's gone... JC's iconic rattail is no more!

Gold Coast Titans fullback Jayden Campbell has had his iconic hairstyle chopped for charity... raising over $16,000 for the club's flood relief scheme.

Initially choosing to get the snip to benefit the Titans' Deadly Futures program when first announced in early February, the youngster thought it was only right to divert the funds to those in need in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales after the devastating floods caused widespread damage to a number of communities within the club's footprint.

"Instead of the money going to Titans Together and the Deadly Futures program, we're going to donate it towards the flood relief," Campbell said.

"I know a lot of boys and a lot of staff in the club have family down that way who have been affected, and a lot of the Future Titans boys are Northern Rivers lads, so it'll be good to give it to them."

The young No. 1 is fully aware of the dire situation in Northern New South Wales. Although from Tingha - a small town west of the disaster zone - he has family who have been impacted by the devastating disaster.

"It's really sad. I've got some family that live in Lismore as well and a lot of boys have been affected," Campbell said.

"It's not a really good situation."

With the Titans recently committing $100,000 to help the flood recovery for grassroots rugby league clubs, those in areas of need and small businesses, it's the immense care for the community that inspires the Gold Coast junior to wear the blue and gold with pride.

"What we're doing makes me proud to be a part of this club. I know a lot of the other boys feel the same way," Campbell said.

"We're not just a club full of footy players. We love getting out and helping the community as well."

Losing the ratty after growing and maintaining it for two years was bittersweet for the 22-year-old, but his family will be pleased with his fresh new hairstyle when he gets home from training.

"I'm sad to see it go, but my missus isn't and my mum and dad aren't," Campbell said.

"But you know... it was getting a little annoying to have to take it out, wash it and then re-plat it, so it's bittersweet."

Titans coach Justin Holbrook was also happy to see the iconic length of hair gone.

"I am glad to see it go," Holbrook joked.

"I think it's a great cause and I would've been happy if it came off no matter what, but the fact we are raising money for charity makes it even better.

"Hopefully it makes JC a little bit more elusive now that he won't have that little bit they could grab hold of."

Be there at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday, March 19 for the Gold Coast Titans' first home game of the year. A double header with the NRL and NRLW Titans in action. $20 from every ticket goes directly to the club's flood recovery initiative.
