With anticipation building for Thursday night's clash between the Titans and the Cowboys, we've decided to look back on the history of the Queensland Derby and the battle for supremacy between the two sides.

The record tells of close score lines, big performances and fierce battles between the forward packs - something that will again be on show this Thursday night.

The two sides have met 28 times since the Titans joined the NRL in 2007.

The Titans have been the victors 11 times in those 28 matches, with the Cowboys claiming the spoils 17 times.

In 2007's inaugural clash, it was the North Queensland Cowboys who claimed victory on the back of a Jonathan Thurston masterclass.

The Titans, however, would go on to claim victory in the next three fixtures and clean sweep the Cowboys in 2008.

Flash forward to 2021, and the Titans would again claim victory in both legs of the Queensland Derby - the first of these a 44 - 8 victory in Townsville.

The second match of 2021 was played behind closed doors at Cbus Super Stadium, and saw the Titans claim the win with a 36 - 14 score line.

This season, the Titans first met a rejuvenated North Queensland squad in Round 7 of the competition, playing in front of 15,000 fans in Townsville.

It was the Cowboys who would go on to claim victory in the first leg of the Queensland Derby, racing away to a 16 - 4 lead at the end of the first half.

Tries to Jeremiah Nanai and Heilum Luki in the second half would see the game finish at 30 - 4, the club's second largest winning total against the Titans.

On Thursday night, the two clubs will meet again in the second leg of 2022's Queensland Derby.

In an Origin effected line up, the Titans will be missing star forward and captain, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui.

The Cowboys, on the back of a solid start to the season, will be missing Valentine Holmes, Reuben Cotter, Jeremiah Nanai who have been named in the Queensland starting squad, and Thomas Deardan who has been named 18th man.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Murray Taulagi have been named in the extended QLD squad for Origin 1, with incumbent coach Billy Slater to make a call on their status closer to the game.

The Titans have everything to play for in the second leg of the 2022 Queensland Derby, needing a win to stay within reach of back-to-back finals appearances.
