Jillaroos legend and Gold Coast Titans director of female rugby league Karyn Murphy says the women's rugby league world cup will help drive players as they head towards the 2023 competition.
The Titans had seven players who were contracted in 2022 part of the decider at Old Trafford, which Australia won 54 points to 4.
Evania Pelite, Shannon Mato and Lauren Brown were part of the winning Jillaroos side, while Georgia Hale, Roxy Murdoch-Masila, Madison Bartlett and Apii Nicholls all played for in the Kiwi Ferns side.
"As a group both individually and as a team we were disappointed with how we finished but equally there were also a lot of positives with how we finished at the Titans," Murphy said.
"To see such a strong presence at the World Cup with the Jillaroos, the Kiwi Ferns and also the Cook Islands team, we had 11 players out of our squad feature over there.
"Probably for us, it was the form of our Titans girls and how well they played over there.
"To call out three of them that made the actual team of the tournament, that was Evania Pelite on the wing, Lauren Brown at hooker and Apii Nicholls at fullback."
Murphy played 27 test matches and captained her country, tasting World Cup success herself in 2013.
"Anyone who plays sport, it should be your goal to represent your country," she said.
"We always say that for that particular year you are the best at your position at that particular time.
"Due to COVID it's been five years, so it's been a long wait for those girls to debut at a World Cup.
"To travel so far away is another experience that a lot of people don't get, so that would have been an amazing experience for those girls."
Murphy has no doubt that the players will be better for the experience.
"Across the board, seeing the talent in the other countries, it just shapes to be an exciting future," she said.
"There are plenty of girls coming through and ones we are looking at for future opportunities here."
The 2023 NRLW draw is expected to be released in coming weeks, with further information still to come around the recruitment process for next season.
