Sam McIntyre talks like he plays footy.
Direct and to the point.
So when he was asked by media to describe the first month of pre-season...
"It's been a tough pre-season as it should be," McIntyre said.
"We are definitely working hard that's for sure.
"We're disappointed where we finished last year and we're not going to let it happen again.
"We want to be the first team to win a premiership on the Gold Coast, so we know we've got areas we need to improve, mainly in defence, and we've been working very hard on that and our fitness and we will be ready to go in 2023."
McIntyre is a player who loves hard work and he says he's determined to use the next few months to make sure Justin Holbrook picks him in his round one side.
"I'm just trying to do everything I can," he said.
"When it comes around, hopefully Justin has no option but to pick me."
While only early in the preparations for the 2023 season, McIntyre says the players are already enjoying the methods, especially in defence, that assistant coach Brett White has brought to the table.
"Whitey brings different skills and he has been amazing," McIntyre said.
"He's bringing the technical side to our defensive stuff and we are learning lots of him.
"He knows when to be serious but we can have a joke with him, but we follow his lead when he is talking especially with defence.
"The main part of defence is communicating.
"I'm trying to talk and trying to help the young boys in their first or second pre-season."
Entering his third season on the Gold Coast, McIntyre will be looking to add to the 23 games he's notched for the Titans.
Able to play both middle and edge, the versatile forward says the competition for spots is driving players to perform.
"Whether it is starting, on the bench, at hooker, on the wing, I don't care I'll play anywhere I just want to be in there."
The 24-year-old knows there is plenty of hard work in the months ahead before football proper resumes, but he is also quick to point out that there's nowhere else he'd rather be.
"It's the best job in the world, I love it and I'm very grateful and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else."
