Future Titans to big stage: Graduates of 2022

The Future Titans pathways system has been a continuous breeding ground for the next generation of Coast talent and in 2022, it was no different with a number of rising stars making their NRL debut.

Along with Jojo Fifita and Klese Haas who both got a taste of the top grade, another three Future Titans were named in the Australian Schoolboys team, with a total of seven players representing Queensland at the ASSRL National Championships.

In 2023, three of the club's pathways alumni have progressed to the NRL squad with green and gold school stars Keano Kini and Josiah Pahulu joining Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui on the development roster, with all three set to join the top 30 in future years.

With a surname that is already well known in rugby league and rugby union circles alike, it was only a matter of time until Jojo Fifita found his way into the NRL. Son of Tongan union international Pila Fifita and second cousin to fellow Titan David Fifita, the 19-year-old talent played eight games for the Gold Coast in the back end of 2022. He averaged 122 run metres per game and scored three tries, playing a mix of centre and wing.

Fifita – who also represented Queensland Under 19 this year - graduated to the NRL after joining the Future Titans following his final year at The Southport School, playing eight Hostplus Cup games with Tweed to start the season and two games with the Seagulls' Hastings Deering Colts in 2021.

He capped off this year with a strong appearance for the Australian PMs XIII.

Haas – the younger brother of Broncos star forward, Payne – enjoyed a rapid rise in 2022. The 20-year-old played 14 Hastings Deering Colts games for Tweed in 2021 and picked up where he left off, notching up another five appearances at the Under 21 level in 2022. But his form soon saw him graduate to the Hostplus Cup, where he played six games for Tweed, before he earned an NRL debut with the Titans.

The Keebra Park product played two games off the bench at end the season, recording two wins from both starts. He made 88 run metres and 22 tackles across the two matches and will look to go to another level in 2023, getting a full pre-season in at the Titans after joining the squad mid-way through the season.

The brother of Titans captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Iszac is a powerful forward who has been an excitement machine coming through the ranks.

One of the fittest players in the squad, the youngster will push hard to make his NRL debut and play alongside his older brother.

Teen sensation Keano Kini is one of the most talented up-and-coming fullbacks. His immense speed and footwork is one of his biggest asset and the Palm Beach Currumbin star also has the ability to play in the halves.

Making the Australian Schoolboys team in 2022, the Future Titans alumni is wanting to continue developing across his long-term deal here on the Coast.

It's been a big year for the reigning National Schoolboy Cup-winning captain; leading Ipswich State High School to their history-making victory as well as starring for the Australian Schoolboys recently and now Josiah Pahulu will spend at least the next three seasons at Parkwood after signing on the dotted line for the club.

The Future Titans front rower idolises NRL skipper Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and spoke recently about wanting to learn as much as he can during his opportunity.
