Middle man: New recruit relishing lethal edge combination

Dave to the left of him, Jojo to the right... Aaron Schoupp is stuck in the middle of a Fifita sandwich.

That's how the 21-year-old new recruit has described his new combination with the two Titans X-factors on the right edge as he hopes to play a big part in bringing the duo together again in his club debut against the Tigers this weekend.

"They probably call it a Fifita sandwich," Schoupp joked.

"Obviously Jojo's got a lot of speed and Davey's got all the talent in the world, so I've just been trying to fit in there and be glue on that edge."

Whilst only early days, the Titans' right edge formation proved to be a winner in the Coast's major pre-season outing a fortnight ago, with the Fifita's linking up for a first-half double in the 40-16 demolition of the Dolphins.

Schoupp too strong close to the line

But the Canterbury-import played his part just as well on the night with a four-pointer of his own, as well as topping the stats tally with 188 running metres and three line breaks.

"All our combinations gelled quite well against the Dolphins and everything fell into place," Schoupp said.

"That whole right edge of me, both Fifitas and Tanah Boyd has been a bit challenging at first, getting to know each other, but I think it's all coming together at the right time.

"We're now all getting ready for Round 1, so it should be good."

This weekend's clash is set to top off a big two weeks for the Schoupp family, with older brother Blake making his rugby union debut last Friday for the ACT Brumbies in Canberra.

It was a special moment Aaron got to share with his nearest and dearest after watching his eldest sibling continuously toil away for years to break into the Super Rugby and has helped the new Titan ignite his excitement levels for the upcoming momentous occasion.

"It's been a long time for my brother... he's 24 now and he finally got his Super Rugby debut," he said.

"Growing up with him, we lived together back in Sydney so I've seen all the hard work that he's done and seeing him debut last week has made me excited for my debut again because it all sort of happens again. Most people might only debut once, so I'm lucky to get two.

"Hopefully he can come out and make the game, but it's going to be a big few weeks for my family going to both debuts.

"Also travelling around for footy now; not just for me at the Gold Coast but for him now he's down in Canberra, so they'll have to balance it out.

"I guess we'll see who's the favourite son."

Schoupp will become Titan #177 against the Wests Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
