Kinetic Schools League Finals full of action

The Kinetic Titans Schools League Year 7/8 Grand Finals were held at Bill Norris Oval on Monday afternoon and lived up to the occasion with thrillers across the day.

With four action packed games, the afternoon featured some of the best up and coming talent the region has to offer.

The first game featured both Division Two girls’ team’s from Marsden State High School, with the Marsden Maroon team coming out on top, 28-4.

Marsden State High School then faced Mabel Park High School in the second game of the day for the Division One girls.

Marsden’s number 11 started off the game with a try savings tackle on the sideline, saving the Mabel Park side from scoring the first points of the game.

Even with a colossal effort in defence from Marsden at the start of the game, the Mabel Park girls were too strong in attack, bringing the score to 12-4 at half time.

A strong opening stand in the second half, saw Mabel Park storm out to a 28-4 lead. A fast-finishing Marsden was unable to bridge the gap, with Mabel Park holding on for a 28-18 win.

The first of the boys’ games saw Southport State High take on renowned NRL-nursey, Palm Beach Currumbin, in the Year 7/8 Division Two match.

The opening half was a tight affair, with a charge down by Southport’s Billy Beersmith, which led to a try, the highlight before a try on the buzzer to Palm Beach Currumbin's Sonny Appo, brought the half time score to 12-8.

With four tries a piece at the full time siren, successful conversions proved to be the difference, with Southport SHS winning their first KINETIC Titans Schools League Grand Final, 24-16.

The final match of the day saw archrivals Marsden State High face off against Keebra Park in the Year 7/8 Division One match - a rematch of the 2022 final.

As expected, nothing could split these two sides, with a half-time score of just 4-4.

With a 10-10 full-time score, our first golden point of the night was upon us. With pressure mounting, both sides made simple errors, but it was Keebra’s Matiu Tautari who showed his skill, securing a try in the corner for a famous Keebra Park victory. The win secures back-to-back Year 7/8 Division One wins for the Keebra Park Blue side.
