Fotuaika backing Lenihan to help lift energy for Cowboys derby

Jim Lenihan has always been the Titans' energiser bunny and this week has been no different despite the tough result last Saturday.

Admitting post-match he felt his side were flat in the opening half against the Roosters, it's a thought that was shared amongst the entire playing group upon reflecting on their Round 21 appearance, feeling their lack of energy upon kick-off really zapped their chances of taking down the plucky Roosters.

But the one man Moeaki Fotuaika is backing to help them avenge the result is their fearless leader, who was witnessed by all in their first training session this week, full of beans and ready to get back in the winner's circle when they face the Cowboys on Sunday.

"Jimmy is always bringing energy whether we win or lose," Fotuaika said.

"He's been doing a really good job filling in and I thought when he did come (into the head coaching role), we've played really well under him.

"It was just last week that we kind of fell off the cliff, but I think we can really fix it up this weekend."

Despite the lacklustre team result at the weekend, the Queensland star delivered yet another man of the match performance - making 197 run metres and 32 tackles without a miss as part of a resurgent 2023 season for the 23-year-old - leading the Titans forward pack in the absence Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, who won't return until Round 24 due to suspension.

That led to the tricolours winning the middle third showdown, notching up more run metres, post contact yardage and set distances against the Gold Coast in their last showing.

With their inspirational skipper on the sidelines, Fotuaika is wanting to help fill the void left by his fellow front row partner, helping rectify their mentality to ensure they aren't beaten in the physical battle again this weekend.

"He is definitely a big loss, but I think we have to realise that we're not going to have Tino for the next few weeks and we definitely lose physicality with what he typically brings to a game because he's such a big body," he said.

"But I thought we just didn't have the right intent. That's why we weren't physical and we just didn't have the energy to start the game.

"We should be able to fix that this week."

Also helping the enforcer's motivation to get the two points will be this weekend's acknowledgement of the hard-working females in the game with the Titans forward having many women in his life that he wants to play for.

"I definitely want to thank my mum... she's definitely done a lot for me and my other siblings. I've got five sisters and four brothers so I don't know how she's done it," Fotuaika said.

"Also, all my all my siblings, my partner, my aunties, my family and the other women around in the world.

"They do a lot of great things in the world and I think it's a great thing that we're celebrating Women in League Round this weekend, so I'm definitely looking forward to that."
