Practice makes perfect: Young gun's crucial learning from golden-point thriller

It might be one of the most overused clichés in the world, but practice surely does make perfect.

Lauren Brown's match-winning field goal is a great testament to that, given the Titans had rehearsed the pressure play time and time again for when it was required... which happened to be in that Round 2 derby clash to secure a 17-16 win against Brisbane.

Lauren Brown wins it

Now, young playmaker Chantay Kiria-Ratu wants to follow in her teammates footsteps and do the same after her first extra-time experience against the Broncos last week.

In only her second game of NRLW, the 18-year-old helped build pressure with continued deft grubber kicks to force repeat set after repeat set... but the sharpshooter missed a crucial penalty goal and field goal attempt to ice the game at the death.

But showing such maturity from the situation, the resilient rookie has her head firmly held high and has taken many a learnings from that Thursday night thriller.

"I'm just going to build on that and just practice, practice, practice so I'm ready for when that moment ever comes again," Kiria-Ratu said.

"I didn't expect myself to ever be doing that anytime soon (having to kick a field goal), but I just heard Boothy (assistant coach Aaron Booth) tell me to get myself in a good position and take the shot when I was ready.

"I guess it was good for me (to be in that situation). I had to put my foot forward and be like... yeah, I'll take this.

"Unfortunately, the result didn't go the way I wanted to, but I think that's an opportunity for me to learn and now I can build from that."

'I can build from that moment': Kiria-Ratu

Part of the youngest halves pairing in NRLW history alongside Sienna Lofipo, the duo will work in tandem together again for this weekend's clash against the Sharks, with Kiria-Ratu extremely excited to again be one of five 18-year-olds to play a big role in keeping their undefeated streak alive at PointsBet Stadium.

"I'm super excited to take the field with the girls again. I think coming into the game with back-to-back wins is really going to bring plenty of energy into our team," she said.

"It's also great seeing us young ones out there having a crack. It's another statement that shows that age doesn't matter... we can do anything."

Titans NRLW coach Karyn Murphy agrees with the two-game star's remarks, endorsing the playmaking pair following their Broncos victory on Thursday night.

"They're confident kids and we all had - I certainly did have - every bit of confidence in those two to do the job," she said.

"They've got a massive future and to play beyond their years out there in that sort of pressure and the decisions they made and how they played out there."
