Titans "grow another foot" as part of Adam Hills documentary

Ten Gold Coast Titans will have their journey to the Rugby League World Cup highlighted as part of a new documentary featuring former Spicks and Specks host Adam Hills.

Airing on Network Ten at 7:30pm and streaming on Paramount+, "Grow Another Foot" documents the Australian Physical Rugby League team's challenges and triumphs at last year's world cup.

Matt Ash, the Community Projects and Partnerships Lead at the Titans, joined the Australian team on their journey to the UK.

"It was unlike anything I've ever done before," Ash said.

"We faced every challenge that could have been thrown at us.

"From minimal funding, lack of pre-tournament trainings, the longest air and road travel time, broken bones and a gastro bug that affected 80% of the squad, the group showed such resilience.

"To see Physical Disability Rugby League showcased to the world and given the same platform as the men, women and wheelchair, solidified that these players belong on the mainstage."

Titans Leagueability players Michael Baker, Dean Clark, Karel Dekker, Dylan Jobson, Richard Muff, Kane Ridgley, Harry Rodgers, Hudson Wicks and Steve Hendry (Co-Captain) were among the touring party for the inaugural Physical Disability Rugby League World Cup.

Hills, who was born without a right foot, trains and plays PDRL at UK club Warrington.

As passionate rugby league person, Hills speaks in the documentary of his pride in representing his country in the game that he loves.

Matt Ash says that Hills helped bring profile to the tournament and was a wonderful team-mate to his fellow players.

"Adam’s presence was certainly a positive for our relatively in-experienced football side, he brought the eyes of the nation (and more so the UK), we had the most high-profile player in the tournament," he said.

"He went about his day just like the rest of the players and was also able to give quality insight into the English squad, given his experience playing for the Warrington Wolves PDRL side.

"He wrote and taught the squad our winning team song, obviously provided some fantastic humour but most importantly, was the man in charge of the speaker - ACDC was on repeat!"

Having had a film crew follow their every move, The Titans squad members are now excited to see the finish product hit TV screens.

Ash says the group know how important is to share their story and experience, hoping others join them in playing in the Titans Leagueability program.

"Any opportunity where a person, no matter their ability, is given the opportunity to represent their country can only bring about a positive experience," he said.

"To see the likes of Paramount+, Gogglebox and Channel 10 finding the airtime for our little documentary, means the world to all those involved with the PDRL Australia World Cup campaign.

"Everyone is so thankful that we have been given the opportunity for our journey to be told."
