NRL 2024: Titans, Late mail: Young gun Weaver to fill Foran's shoes in season opener

Titans coach Des Hasler has entrusted rising rookie Tom Weaver to fill the void of Kieran Foran with the veteran playmaker ruled out of the Gold Coast's season opener due to a minor lower limb injury.

The 282-game star was at full fitness and eager to return after being rested from the recent trials until a slight incident at training this week put the 33-year-old in doubt.

Given every opportunity to prove his fitness through out the week, Titans medicos have taken a cautious approach, giving the opportunity to young playmaker.

Foran's injury is not expected to sour the momentous occasion for the Titans' trio of milestone men, who are all celebrating pivotal moments of their NRL careers against the Dragons.

AJ Brimson will be eager to dominate in his new position in his 100th NRL appearance, whilst his fellow outside back teammate Brian Kelly adopts a similar mentality in what will be his 100th game for the Titans.

Experienced forward Isaac Liu has also prepared for a big performance when he to notches up 250 NRL games - his 47th as a Titan - and will start at lock pushing club debutant Keenan Palasia to the bench in his first appearance for the Coast.

Kick-off is at 6.35pm (AEST), live on Fox League and Kayo Sports.
