Affiliate wrap: Gordon impresses in Cup debut

Carter Gordon had a strong start to his rugby league career, helping the Tweed Seagulls to a 34-20 win over Western Clydesdales on Sunday.

Making his Hostplus Cup debut in Dalby for Country Week, the former Wallabies fly-half got off to the best possible start with a classy four-pointer; alongside 137 running metres, two line breaks and a try assist in his maiden 13-player game.

Tony Francis also found the white stripe in his return from a shoulder injury, notching up 123 running metres and three tackle breaks spending two months on the sidelines with an AC joint complaint.

It was an important two points for Tweed who move to 11th on the ladder with three games to play, next against the Norths Devils at Bishop Park on Saturday in another must-win clash to keep their finals hopes alive.

The Jets will take confidence from winning the second half against the Sunshine Coast in South Kolan, slowing the Falcons' fast start to eventually go down 32-16.

Ipswich have four games remaining in their 2024 season - against the Cutters, Dolphins, Bears and Magpies.
