Affiliate wrap: De Groot excels at No. 1 as Jets fire at home

An afternoon of brilliance from Jaylan De Groot has helped the Jets to a comprehensive 30-12 victory over the Cutters on Sunday afternoon.

The Titans-contracted No. 1 was on fire with ball-in-hand, notching up 223 running metres, two line-breaks and six tackle busts helping Ipswich to their fourth win of 2024 in front of a solid home crowd for Harvey Norman Women in League Round.

The 20-year-old credited Gold Coast coach Des Hasler for his continued improvement in his first season on the club's development list, emulating a similar style of footy of fellow young gun Keano Kini in the same position.

"He's definitely helped my game a lot," De Groot said post-match on Sunday.

"He’s put heaps of confidence in me training there during the week and getting little things here and there from him and all the players.

"It definitely helps coming here (playing for the Jets) and trying to help the boys win."

Alongside De Groot's performance, Joe Stimson was also on fire in the middle third after running for 244 metres across 24 runs; meanwhile, Arama Hau was also impressive at lock, keeping busy with over 130 metres and a stylist four-pointer.

Whilst officially out of the finals race, the Jets want to be a headache for vying clubs in their last month of footy against the Dolphins, Bears and Magpies.

"The last couple of weeks have been really good. Us (Titans) boys have been really keen to come back and put our best foot forward for this team," De Groot said.

"We didn’t start too well at the beginning of the year, but we’ll slowly been building and hopefully we can get a few more wins before the year is out."

Fellow Titans' affiliate Tweed also tasted success with a big scalp against the Devils, defeating the second-placed side 26-22 at Piggabeen on Saturday.

Carter Gordon was impressive again in his second showing, finding the try-line in consecutive weeks; whilst Tony Francis and Jacob Alick-Wiencke also contributed with four-pointers to help the Seagulls to 10th place with two games to play.

They'll head to Papua New Guinea to face the Hunters on Sunday.
