‘Excited to turn things around’: Titans relishing opportunity in first trip north

A debut trip to Townsville is exactly what the Titans are hoping will wash off last week's disappointing first loss of the 2024 NRLW season.

Going down 44-4 to M1 rivals Brisbane, experienced flyer Emily Bass is excited to head up to Townsville and face the Cowboys in their bid to return to winning ways; but the Origin winger is aware of the quality she'll be facing, including halfback Kirra Dibb and centre Jakiya Whitfield.

"She (Whitfield) is someone we have to look out for," she said.

"We've got to be strong and our defence has got to be better this weekend to secure and lock her down.

"They've got a really good back five that can get them out of trouble, so we have to secure them down their end early and put a bit of pressure on Kirra on her kicks."

The dangerous new left edge duo of Bass and Jaime Chapman will be hungry to comeback and dominate again after a tough game last week against the Broncos.

The change from the right to left wing has paid off for Bass as she took turns with her superstar centre partner scoring hat-tricks in the first two rounds.

"I usually play on the right wing, ut I'm happy to go on the left with Chapoo and have that combination with her," she said.

"The transition to the left side, I've played it for Origin with Vani (Pelite), so it doesn't bother me.

"You could put me anywhere on the field if they needed me I will fill a position."

The Titans will want to bounce back after their tough loss, which sent them from the top of the table to fifth, showing how close the NRLW competition is this year.

"It's really exciting how close it is between each team," Bass said.

"You have to turn up each week and perform.

"It's quite a short season and if you don't get those two points early on in the season it makes it really hard in the back end of the season to get yourself up in that top four position."

But the visitors will look to reclaim their spot inside the top four with a win against North Queensland this Saturday at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
