Five-try first half fires Dragons to win over Titans

The Dragons have climbed back into the top eight on the NRL ladder after posting a 32-16 win against the Titans.

However, it was the Titans who burst out of the blocks in their first set of the game, with fullback Keano Kini fielding a kick and making a break, passing back into his inside to a trailing Jojo Fifita to score the opening try in opening minute.

However, that sparked the Dragons into action as they mounted their fightback, scoring five straight tries to finish the first half.

Their first came via winger Christian Tuipolotu who went over out wide after a nice tap one from Tyrell Sloan and they went back-to-back when a lucky bounce went back over the defensive line of the Titans, with Luciano Leilua sprinting onto the ball to make a break. The Dragons were able to capitalise, with skipper Ben Hunt the one to burst through to score and put his side in the lead.

They were in for their third in a row after they received a penalty with Brian Kelly pushing Jaydn Su'A over at marker to hand over possession. The home side went on the attack, with Hunt throwing a great pass out to his right to find Lomax who when over the extend their lead.

Another attacking break from the Dragons saw them get their fourth of the half, with Toby Couchman just managing to get the ball down to finish the play, despite the best efforts of Jayden Campbell to hold him up.

Leilua then had the home side's fifth of the first half after an offload close to the line by Ryan Couchman found his big forward who proved too hard to stop.

Lomax kicked the conversion to give his side a 26-6 lead at the break - their highest scoring first half in two years.

The Titans were the first on the board in the second half when a bit of luck went their way, with Jayden Campbell collecting a ball off his foot to avoid it being deemed a knock on, playing until the whistle to touch down and score.

The Titans were back-to-back try scorers when Fifita got his second with just under 15 minutes to play to reduce the previously comfortable breathing room for the Dragons to trail 26-16.

However, the Dragons closed out the game when Francis Molo barged his way over from dummy half to cap off an important win for his side.

Next week, the Titans will return home to the Gold Coast to host the Roosters on Sunday, while the Dragons will close the round with their Sunday night game at WIN Stadium, Wollongong against the Sharks.
