Error-free footy key to plucking Chooks says Murphy

Mistake-free football is high on Karyn Murphy's agenda as she prepares for a must-win game against the high-flying Roosters on Sunday.

In what is essentially an early do-or-die clash given the past two weeks for the Titans, the Gold Coast mentor was left disappointed with a 72 percent completion rate against the Cowboys, which included 12 errors and eight penalties.

Whilst it was a much-improved defensive effort after the Broncos piled on the points in Round 3, the lack of discipline in Townsville proved to be most costly, stifling the side's ability to score points which led to their second consecutive loss in as many weeks.

"Our defence was a lot better but we didn't get to attack too much," Murphy said.

"It's what we wanted (defensively), but not completing our sets with errors early in the tackle count and our discipline with the amount of penalties we conceded, that's going to cost any football team and it definitely costed us.

"We need to respect the ball, put ourselves into good position and do the things we do well.

"We like to build pressure and give ourselves a chance. I think with the strike power we have in this team, attack will naturally come but we were just trying to push a few things too early last week.

"It's an important game for us and we know that. We started the season well but dropping those two last rounds in what is a short competition, we know how vital it is to get those wins.

"We were definitely disappointed in last week's results, but the girls have come back this week and are working hard as we look forward to the Roosters this week."

Whilst it has also been a rocky road for the Roosters in recent weeks, the perennial contenders have found ways to win in their first month of competition, sitting nicely in second spot after their early hiccup against the defending premiers.

Littered with Origin and International stars, Murphy knows this weekend is going to be no easy feat given the talent in the opposition.

"It's been a good competition... teams have performed inconsistently over the initial few rounds but the Roosters are a quality side and have got quality across the park," she said.

"We know that so we really have to be on our game and not afford to have one of those games where we're not playing for the full 70.

"Teams like the Roosters will make you pay."

But helping the challenge ahead is the return to Cbus Super Stadium after the past fortnight away, calling on the strong support of the Gold Coast to help them conquer the Chooks and get back on track as the side eyes grand final redemption.

"We have been on the road for the last couple of weeks and we enjoy playing at home and we enjoy the home crowd and playing in front of our community here on the Gold Coast," Murphy said.

"It's an exciting weekend with both the boys and us playing the Roosters. We kick-off the day at midday, so hopefully we can start the day well."
