Chapman set for big PM's performance in quest for Jillaroos jersey

Jaime Chapman hasn't given up her Jillaroos hopes despite being overlooked this week for the upcoming Pacific Championships.

Eager to impress in this Sunday’s PM's XIII match against Papua New Guinea, the 22-year-old will leverage her omission from the Jillaroos squad to drive her performance this weekend after a tough NRLW season - battling niggling hamstring injuries across the campaign.

"Obviously, I’m disappointed not to get into that top squad but I’ve been struggling with some injuries this year, so I totally understand," Chapman said.

"I haven't been in my top form but I'm willing to give it my all in this PM’s campaign and hopefully get the call up from Brad [Donald] if these hamstrings can hang on and I can perform the way I want to perform.

"I think having these last few weeks off has done me a world of good and I am very honoured to be in this PM's team and play for my country."

Whilst it's been a tough week with Monday's initial exclusion, the Veronica White Medal nominee is looking forward to heading over to PNG for her first time.

"This will be my first time playing there and I've heard so many amazing things so I'm super excited," Chapman said.

"Adidas are actually sending over 20 pairs of boots for our PNG brothers and sisters and I feel very grateful to be part of that."

Indigenous All Star Shaylee Bent will join Chapman this weekend to feature in the Prime Ministers' XIII clash with the experienced forward thrilled at the opportunity to mentor the squad's younger players.

"There’s so many up-and-coming girls and for myself," she said.

"I’m 24 now so I’m not one of the young ones anymore so to play alongside those younger girls and be a part of their journey is really special.

"I’ve never been to PNG before and I know the fans over there love league so I’m keen to get over there and meet them all this weekend."

The duo will be two of five Titans in action across both Australia's men's and women's Prime Minister’s XIII squads with Lauren Brown, Beau Fermor and Alofiana Khan-Pereira also representing the green and gold against PNG on Sunday.
