Jayden Campbell has had to get used to playing a number of new roles this season, but is enjoying the responsibility of being one of the squad’s senior leaders.

Having shared previously his mindset on approaching his transition from fullback to halfback, as well as the work he continues to do, Campbell has now gotten used to sharing the insights he has gained in his 61-game career with younger teammates Keano Kini and Jaylan De Groot.

“I am really proud of De Grousey … he works really hard and I was just really happy for him to get another game for us and play the way he did," Campbell said.

“He was my roommate through the week, he chewed my ear off a little bit … he's another great young kid.

“He comes and asks myself and AJ [Brimson] a lot of questions, he wants to get better and if you ask me questions, I'll help him out as much as I can.

“He's a great player on his own, he's really smart, he’s fast. He just wants to get better every week and he's a really good kid.

“It's a little bit weird – you hear me saying Keano and Grousey are kids – but that's how I feel now because they ask me all these questions, which I love.

“Personally, it helps me grow as a player as well, but it's a little bit weird.

“I wanted to be the one learning off other players and whatnot when I was first coming in and having people come to me now, it's weird, but it's good at the same time.”

Jayden Campbell Try

In the weekend's win over the Roosters, Campbell provided the momentum-turning play with an intercept try to help his side draw level, before pulling away to secure the 30-16 result.

Forced into a grind early, it was the sort of game the Titans of 2024 were more likely to lose, with Campbell saying the players were striving to improve their resilience this year.

“It's really, really big for us, it shows that all the work that we've done during the pre-season paid off; all the areas that we prided ourselves on in the pre-season starting to pay off, so it's a really, really big (win) for us,” Campbell said.

“It's my first time beating the Roosters, had a few games against them – and they've been close – but never beat them.

“I feel like it's just the effort areas in the pre-season that we pride ourselves on (are helping with the results).

“I know that the leadership group this year have come up with non-negotiables and I felt like the team really bought into it and I feel like we're doing it very well.”

In their own voice: What Multicultural Round means to us

In preparing for this week’s Multicultural Round game against the Dolphins, Campbell knew his side needed to be switched on in the derby match, with the visitors desperately seeking their first win.

“In the past, you can get a little bit complacent after a win, especially two in a row,” Campbell said.

“But as a team, I feel like this year, moving forward, we're just saying we've got to start back at zero.

“NRL's hard week-in, week-out, so you have just got to come to training the next week and start from zero and just keep building and training.”
